Quilting has me bound!

One of the things on my "Grandma to do" list is to make each of my grandkids a quilt when they go into a twin bed. I kept up with Kellen, (I even kept practicing on Kellen). Now that there are more grandkids I am behind!! So here's Evelyn's twin quilt....
Now since Melinda and Aaron moved into a house, the curtains I made Evie when she was a baby don't fit the window (or Evie) So I made curtains to coordinate with the quilt...and a pillow case too. The curtains are yellow with flowered trim and the pillow case is flowered with yellow trim. (Evie's room is yellow, as are the knobs on her dresser.
But then I was on a roll! There is a place in Tooele that lets you use their quilting machine and I figured I could get all caught up soooo... I started piecing Dallas' quilt. I had bought this panel in Guthrie OK. when Dallas was born and intended to cut the boots out and piece the quilt...just never got to it. It was expensive (and I am cheap) which is why I bought the panel instead of enough to just make the whole quilt. When Evie's quilt was done I took my supplies to work and started piecing, I am allowed to do "home sewing" on machines at work as long as it is on break and lunch. So here's my little "cowboy boots" quilt. I think it is just too cute!
All 12 blocks are different. (There were actually 15 blocks, but 3 of them are pink...let's be real!) I didn't think I'd have time to do this before leaving for Wisconsin, but I finished the piecing and called the quilt shop and they had an opening. Got it all done on Sat, and finished binding it Sunday evening. This next block is a close-up of one of the boots. Now my quilting still leaves alot of room for improvement, but I am excited that I finally found a way that I can complete one of the items on Grandma's to do list!
I have got my next quilt ready to put on when I get back from Wisconsin and Melinda's family, and have stuff to start piecing another when I get that one done. Maybe I will keep busy!!

Random Tag....

7 Random thoughts ...Tagged by Melinda

1. I cannot seem to find the snooze button on the alarm! I even hate to hear it go off! If I wake up before the alarm, I just get up and get on with my day...but for sure...don't expect me to sleep PAST my alarm!

2. We FINALLY bought a map of Salt Lake City and actually used it to do some "sight seeing" on Friday last. We were going to go to the temple, but I had left my purse at home...hence...no recommend. SOOooo...we drove up Emigration Canyon to "This Is The Place" monument (where I have been, but Bill hasn't) spent some time there and then drove up theccanyon quite a ways. We happened upon this quaint little place called "Ruth's Diner". It was a trolley car! Anyway we stopped and ate...Wonderful!

3. I am so far behind on my cleaning and filing that one more day will not make a difference, so today I am planning on checking out a quilt place and spending at least 1/2 a day there. You can rent their big industial quilt machine for $10.00 an hour... cool huh?

4. Even though one of the rules of the house is to not take food out of the kitchen, I am ALWAYS collecting dishes from the TV and Wesley's room!!

5. I do not understand math and science very well, but I am very grateful for all those who do....I know that they help us enjoy music, games, recipes, warmth and EVERTHING!! I just don't have to be the one that understands it.

6. If I don't hurry I will be late...a FREQUENT random thought...somehow I am always sabatogging myself!!

7. If you are going to eat cold cereal for breakfast, you might as well eat something you're really going to enjoy because there really isn't much nutritional value there.

It was fun, but I gotta run, I tag Sarah Hare and Sarah Farrell...If they have already been tagged, you are IT!!

Stuffed Chicken Breast

Well, we finally got around to trying the stuffed Chicken that Sarah Hare posted. It was WONDERFUL! I didn't have rice crispies so I ground up Life cereal and added my garlic seasoning. (the stuff I usually put on garlic toast) We used Pablano pepper instead of Jalepeno. It will definitely be on our repeat list. We served it with mixed vegetables and lemon rice. Mmm, Mmm, Good!

Food Tag...from Calista

7 things about me and food, unique, wierd, little known or whatever...

1. I have always liked making a big breakfast, or maybe I should say a hot, sit down and eat breakfast. The hardest thing for me when I started work was giving up making breakfast for my family. It's really a bummer that our breakfast break is 15 minutes and I usually have cold cereal or yogurt.

2. Like Calista, I like as many toppings or add ins or stuff in or on my food as I can get. There is no such thing as a plain carrot cake...it has coconut, pecans, pineapple and carrots in it. I just made a chocolate cake...it has pecans and special dark chocolate chips in it as well as a cream cheese layer. Salads...everything. Pizza..almost everything...no anchovies! Haystacks...loaded. Sundaes...YES!

3. I generally drink water. With meals, between meals... My big soda splurge is rootbeer floats. I prefer eating the fruit to drinking the fruit juice, but I do like milk with my breakfast. Water, water, water!

4. I have always gained a real sense of satisfaction from "homemade". Whether it's bread, cakes, dinners, whatever. I don't like using boxes and cans to prepare. I grind my wheat as I make my bread. White sauce is almost as easy as opening cream soups, tastes better and has more variations. Home canned is best too.

5. I have always been comfortable feeding people. I guess it's akin to "feeding = nurturing". I guess that's why I over feed and over eat. More is always better. Did you ever see someone assigned to bring a casserole for 10 to a pot luck or funeral, and have them bring enough for 4? Not gonna happen here!

6. I don't usually use recipes for casseroles and cooking dinner stuff...but I've tried to bake that way and it usually backfires! Don't get me wrong, I still try and occasionally it works, but there must be more science with "baking" than with "cooking"

7. I can't tell you how many times I have "purged" my cupboards, deciding I was going to eat healthy. It must be my way of torture. As soon as I get rid of hydrogenated, white, overprocessed, food...I decide I can't live without it. I'm not sure how that relates to my progressas a healthy well adjusted female, but somedays I could get rid of all the other food groups and live on chocolate!

OK Here's the "Crab Crack"

Well, here's the decor of the room..fish nets and sea shells on all the walls, and various nautical stuff on the stage. Bill and I bought tickets to this event through his work just for a night out. It was a lot of fun, there's a buffett set up down the middle of the room with baked potato, cole slaw, shrimp, cocktail sauce and butter, and dessert...cherry cobbler. When you finish dishing up all the buffett items you want, they bring a bucket of crab to your table and everyone shares from the same bucket.

Here we are in our bibs, before we got messy. Let me tell you now, a Crab Crack is NOT a tidy date! You don't know your table mates very well before you start, but if your are all digging out the crab meat and you fling a little...well let's just say that you are all family when you finish. We had a very good time, the food was great. I did decide I liked the shrimp better than the crab though. I had to work pretty hard for the crab.

Sorry, I'm having trouble posting a picture...

Well I keep getting a server error, so I guess I'll abandon this for now.

What is a "Crab Crack"?!

5 of my favorite things:

1. Family...all...parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews...I guess if I had to prioritize I'd be in trouble, everyone would be second to grandchildren! (But you have to have some of the others to get the grandchildren!)

2. Sewing...not really the kind I do at work all day, but creative sewing, quilts, blessing outfits, costumes.

3. The beautiful world around me...I love the seasons, the mountains, flowers, cloud formations, sunsets...I especially love that so many of you do the pic of the day and include nature...it's awesome

4. My down pillow...especially since I forgot it last night when I went to the hotel to visit my sisters! With a down pillow I can form it just the way I want, it can be molded, pushed, fluffed, or whatever, and it's perfect for me.

5. Food..I don't know if I can be specific! Comfort food...today it was carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

I don't know who is left to tag, but if you've been tagged and haven't done it yet, consider yourself tagged!

Leap Day Reaction??

Long week, longer day! I actually came home from work and curled up on the loveseat and went to sleep to the news droning in the background. Any way Bill asked me what was for dinner...now I ask you who can ask about dinner at a time like this? I told him Wes had some leftover pizza in the freezer...have at. He ate some pizza and then stetched out in his recliner for a nap. This is what he looked like when he woke up! This has happened one other time, we don't know what he's allergic to but it is an allergic reaction. It would be more fun to say it was my reaction to him waking me from a nap, but, at least this time, not so.
