A "no work" Monday

What a great day! Sleep in, make bread pudding (with day old apple fritters) for breakfast, run the dishwasher and go back to bed! Bill's birthday was Friday and we went to Dinner with Kathy and Dave at Chili's. I love that place! I had not gone shopping for any B'day gifts....but as we talked about getting Bill ready for another winter camp out this coming weekend we decided that camping gear might be in order. SOOOO after my long winter's nap, we drove into Salt Lake and bought him a cot and pad. We should have known with a name like "Lumberjack" his cot wouldn't fit in a 3 man tent. We got home and he grabbed the tent from the garage and set it up in the living room and then attempted to put his cot in... not gonna happen! It sticks out a good 3 feet. But the pad fits on the cot well and even has a thing to hold his pillow. He laid on it and declared it very comfortable, even though from his knees down were sticking out of the tent. I fixed some dinner and then started making homemade bread. After Bill was sure all the rush hour traffic had died out he went back to Salt Lake to get a tent the cot would fit in. (This B'day is getting expensive) We decided it would be worth it because Bill just keeps on getting called as Scoutmaster, and he says he's an old man that needs his own bed. I guess if he has to go campin (especially in the winter) he deserves to be a little comfy.

Halloween 2007 You may be asking yourself "Who is this?" Or more like it... "What is this?
This is our own Wesley...who called me on my way home from work ON HALLOWEEN DAY and asked if I had a costume he could wear to work at Coldstone Creamery....I had none. When I got home we went shopping...first to Walgreens where he bought the hat and the mask (the hat had a leapard band on it which he would not wear, so he also bought a black headband for the hat). Then we went to a costume shop so he could buy a cape, but the only ones left were $30-$50 and he didn't have that kind of money. Next stop...WalMart. Their costumes were very picked over and came in sizes 2-14. He looked at fabric and found some red velveteen which he paid for then rushed home for an hour of design and sew before his shift at work started. This is what we came up with ...I wanted to make him a banner that said"Super Scooper" Which I thought would be appropriate for an ice cream place, but he would have no part of it.

Christmas morning...Wesley's grand keyboard. The best part is the headphones...when we go to bed, he can plug himself in and play to his heart's desire!

The Four Musketeers

This was Halloween 2006. There was a costume party and these boys won first place in the group catagory. They collected the shirts, I bought the hats and made the tabards (sp?) they made their swords (sawed off golf clubs) and borrowed gloves (2 pair are women's driving gloves) and they wore black pants. Porthos made his beard and mustache and "glued" them on....Areimis had plenty of peach fuzz which we applied mascara to darken.

Their "swords" were confiscated at the door...actually there was a whole stockpile of weapons that were confiscated. Why is it that boys costumes invariably have weapons.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a real knock out of a storm yesterday! It was supposed to end at 10PM (13th), but the evening news said snow would continue till 5AM. (14th) The 5 AM news said it would continue untill at least mid-day! They say that the inches of snow itself weren't the biggest problem. The biggest problem was the 50 - 70 MPH winds that caused drifting and horrible road conditions. When I got up at 4:30 AM for work, I decided I had better call in. They said to sit tight till 11AM and they would re-evaluate the situation then. Bill also called in, they said not to report to work till 9AM. Whoo-ha! We got a snow morning anyway. Too bad we didn't know till we were wide awake and surveying the storm. We'd have slept in. Instead we got to have a nice breakfast together. We had hot cocoa with whipped cream and German pancakes. What a nice start for a beautiful Valentine's day.

The above poem was written by Bill before we were married. I have always loved it, but it became a tribute to our daughter Mariah Reid when she passed away February 13th 1990. 18 years ago today. Today as I remember her I am filled with love for her, but also my heart is full of memories of my children and all my grandchildren. Enjoy all of your todays, the tomorrows are less certain.
